Opals great Lauren Jackson announced the squads for the tournament on Wednesday, with Brad Newley the only member of the men’s team to previously grace a Commonwealth Games.
Born in Launceston in 1988, Goulding attended West Launceston Primary School and began playing basketball at Launceston PCYC before his family relocated to Brisbane.
The 192-centimetre, Melbourne-based 29-year-old represented Australia in the 2007 under-19 world championships and has since become a Boomers regular, with world cup and world championship experience.
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he helped the team finish second in its group behind the US and beat Lithuania in the quarter-finals only to lose to Serbia in the semis and then be denied a bronze medal by one point against Spain.
Goulding joins a dozen Tasmanians already selected with hockey yet to name its Gold Coast team.
