It was the first time on Friday that both Melbourne and Tasmania-based teammates gathered together at Collingwood’s Super Netball club’s training headquarters.
The camp is a forerunner to the Australian Netball League season before the Magpies are forced to axe four spots from its current 19-player squad.
Northern Hawks trio Ashlea Mawer, Danni Pickett and Jamie Symons, and Cavaliers star Shelby Miller will be among 11 Tasmanians that include seven from Hobart contesting for final spots.
They will be joined at the camp by former Winnaleah talent Kelsie Rainbow and Launceston-raised Madeline Carter, who both play Victorian state netball for Melbourne University Lightning.
Magpies coach Kate Upton and Hobart-based assistant Claire Dennis are set to name the final squad post camp for the Tasmanian campaign.
“We’re hoping to get a feel for the environment and the importance of what it means to represent Tasmania and Collingwood,” Upton said.
“Having our Tasmanians involved in the setup gives them an understanding of a high-performance environment, the level of professionalism and intensity that is required to continue to play or advance to the next level.”
