The 19-year-old scored a youth men’s record 29 goals in 10 matches to clinch the competition’s golden boot award, however, Tasmania lost the grand final narrowly to Central Coast Northern NSW in Penrith.
“It was unreal as it was the first time I’ve played in a national comp,” he said.
“Central Coast was the better team and outplayed us, but we as a group had a good time.
“To win the golden boot with a record is something I’m pretty proud of.”
Mies said he primarily plays futsal socially through the soccer summer off-season. However, he said that a taste of national competition had him wanting to do more.
“Most of my commitment is outdoor soccer at the moment, futsl’s a summer past time for me,” he said.
“But it’s been great fun and I’ll keep continuing with it.”
Mies and City teammate Jarrod Linger were also named in the youth men’s all-star five of the tournament, while open men's goalkeeper Bardia Solati and under-16 boys forward Bradley Lakoseljac also received the honour for their respective divisions.
The state’s under-16 boys finished runners up to Queensland City in final, while Lakoseljac won the golden boot with 20 successful strikes. At the youth championships, under-11 boys’ Fletcher Fellows and under-16 girls Georgia Anderson and Olivia Bomford were named in all star teams for their efforts throughout the four-day event.
Futsal Tasmania’s Romeo Frediani said the results were fantastic for the individuals and sport in general.
