Queechy Penguins’ Josh Commins and Tamar Churinga’s Beau Cornelius were both selected in a 16-man squad for the championships, with South Launceston’s Sam Elliston-Buckley listed as a train-on player.
The selection caps off an impressive year for Commins, who was also named individual male athlete of the year at The Examiner’s Junior Sport Awards in November, while 18-year-old Cornelius was named in the state under-18 indoor side earlier this year.
No Northern Tasmanians were selected in the women’s under-18 team, however, Queechy Penguin Caitlin French will train with the squad in the lead-up to the tournament.
The championships will be held at the Northern Hockey Centre in St Leonards from March 13 to March 21.
