The Xmas fireworks spectacular meeting at Gulf Western Speedway at Latrobe ended with promoters making the difficult decision to cancel the racing early in the program due to weather.
The kart racing provided plentiful entertainment for those that arrived early.
Aaron Bissett set a new lap record for senior karts in the second heat.
He would then go on to lower it twice more during the final with a new lap record for senior karts to 14.590 seconds.
He was leading the final when he struck mechanical problems a short distance from the finish. Cody Bryan had battled his way passed Ellis Dickenson and inherited the win from Dickenson and Shanae Williams.
The Junior Kart racing was won by Chase Redpath who held out a determined Cooper Stuart who applied maximum pressure throughout the final, while Kaleb Sims took third.
The junior consolation final was won by Luke Pelham from Makaila Riley and Kimberly Slater.
The 125cc karts were won by Jayden Bryan from James Dillon with both karts never separated by more than a kart length for most of the final.
Third went to Jackson Davies.
The Wingless heat was dominated by Wade Lello from Jamie Rolls and the battle for third was eventually won by Josh Padman.
The Tassie Sixes heat had no fewer than five different race leaders as the track was affected by light drizzle.
Todd Russell kept out of trouble and found some grip high on the track to pass Tiffany Frankcombe and grab the victory. It was Ben Bown who scored third in a smart drive that kept him out of trouble.
Sadly the precipitation persisted so officials made the decision to cancel the remainder of the meeting.
The season continues at Solo Speedway in the states South with their annual ‘Fireworks Christmas Spectacular’ next weekend featuring super sedans, AMCA’s street stocks, Formula 500s wingless sprints, speedway karts and the hard hitting full contact bombers.
