Rowena Fry is eyeing a return to the Enduro World Series after claiming her eighth Australian mountain bike crown.

A two-time cross-country champion, the Latrobe-raised Launceston-based 34-year-old won the elite women's gravity enduro national championships at Fox Creek near Adelaide by 24 seconds from reigning champion Phillipa Rostan, of South Australia.
Having contested the EWS in Derby earlier this year, Fry is keen for another taste when the series returns to Australia or even New Zealand.
“Enduro is much more relaxing and less stressful than cross-country,” she said.
“It’s all the best bits of mountain biking, racing the downs and cruising the ups, which is why I think it’s booming. To be at the top level in cross-country you’ve got to train almost full-time but with enduro you can still work and have fun.”
Fry was also full of praise for Launceston Mountain Bike Club teammate Izzy Flint who won the under-17 race by nearly 21 seconds.
“I’d like to take this as far as possible and make a career out of it but I know that’s easier said than done,” Flint, 15, said.
Hobart’s Harry Nichols claimed a bronze medal in the under-19s with Tom Cheesman 10th while Launceston’s Tom Stylianou came fifth in the under-15s with Jak Oxford 11th.
Under-17 Riley Cowling crashed and injured his hand and Kaine Cannon came 14th in the elite men with Thomas Booth 21st and Dylan Calow 30th.
