Leedham won this event in 2005, 06, 07, 08, 2012 and 2016 and will face strong opposition from local and interstate competitors over the championhip’s 54 holes November 15 to 17.
Early interstate entries include New South Wales players Vince Clark and Chris Gordon and Queenslanders Brad Dowling and Michael Peek. Among the Tasmanians are Robbie Berne of Prospect Vale and Craig Clark of Wynyard. Entries close on November 3.
At Launceston Golf Club Mitch Van Noord defends his championship in Sunday’s final against Greg Longmore.
Van Noord defeated Shayne Walker on his way to the final and Longmore came from six down early to beat Brett Churchill at the 20th.
In the other scratch events, David Larter plays John Meadows in B grade and Tony Powell meets Cam Page in C grade.
The handicap events see Dylan Kingston play Gary Conway in A grade, Justin Nobes plays Sunny Hwang in B and Danny Milloy plays 91-year-old Jack Clark in the C grade handicap final.
Victorian Greg Rhodes won the Australian Senior Amateur played at Royal Hobart last week with rounds of 72,68,76 to finish at even par.
Rhodes plays at Coomealla Golf Club on the Murray River and previously won this event in 2015.
Runner up was Michael Barltrop from Royal Auckland Golf Club who had 73, 71 and 75, and Royal Hobart member Peter Shaw was the leading Tasmanian.
Nineteen-year-old Georgia Milbourne won her fifth consecutive Tasmanian Business Women’s title at the Tasmania Golf Club on Sunday with a fine event par round of 74.
Her nearest rival was Prospect Vale’s Lily Caelli, 77 and Riverside’s Amanda Smith on 81. Tasmania won the teams event on a countback from Prospect Vale.
Launceston’s Cam Bell and Prospect Vale’s James Fiddian represented Golf Tasmania at the Keperra Bowl in Brisbane last week.
This is a national ranking event and Cam Bell carded 73, 74, 75, 79 while Fiddian missed the cut with rounds of 80 and 82.
