The Tasmanian government launched its Pilot Stock Underpass program on Tuesday, with farmers eligible to apply for up to 33 per cent of the cost of establishing an underpass.
This $750,000 program allows for grants of up to $50,000 per application, Primary Industries and Water minister Jeremy Rockliff said.
“Farmers regularly need to move stock across roads as a normal part of herd management, which can create risks for farmers, livestock and road users,” Mr Rockliff said.
“A significant advantage of the stock underpass is helping improve farm operating efficiency by enabling one person to move stock under a road,” he said.
Standard drawings have been developed for a modular stock underpass system and modular components can be bought from precast concrete fabricators in Tasmania.
