The Launceston Football Club veteran, in mostly likely his last season, has been part of four Blues premierships in his 149 games to date.
On Saturday, the 31-year-old forward-ruck will reach the 150-game milestone against old foes North Launceston at Windsor Park, guaranteeing him a club life membership.
O'Donoghue was part of Launceston’s Northern Tasmanian Football League three-peat (2006-08) and in the side that won the State League decider in 2011.
“It’s been a long time coming, I’ve been playing footy down there most of my career,” he said.
“I’ve been part of a very successful era… I’ve got mates that have played their whole career and never played finals so I don’t take it for granted.
“There are huge memories of those flags. We went into the 2006 grand final with Devonport beating us in every game leading in by over 60 points. In the second semi Devonport flogged us again and we went into the grand final as underdogs and we come out and beat them by 56 points.
“The next year you always have a pact of everyone coming back to try and back it up and then to back it up a third time was brilliant.”
O'Donoghue was also part of the defunct Devils program and has had short stints with Northern Bullants, Bridgenorth and Longford.
However, wherever he has gone there has been one thing he has always done – “I’ve got one superstition ... I always wear a long-sleeve”.
O'Donoghue will selflessly discuss his playing future with coach Sam Lonergan at season’s end but said he did not want to stop upcoming ruck-forwards Hamish Leedham and Tim Auckland from getting a game and developing.
