Since launching MyGolf in 2016, PGA professional Bryce Gorham has improved the program to include mini games involving basic skills, introducing competition to encourage engagement and to provide challenges.
“Community engagement is the key at Prospect Vale, bringing families together with putting competitions each week between adults and juniors,” Bryce said.
“We have two areas in our junior program. Sunday morning clinics focus on developing the kids into golfers, getting them to love golf and we then move them into our elite junior category.
“With the support from both Country Club Tasmania and Prospect Vale Golf Club, I have the ability to coach one-on-one with the elite juniors once a week.
“This has given our club some very impressive results so far. This year three boys joined the junior state team and a junior girl joined the women’s state team.”
Hallie Maeburn of Royal Hobart competed in the recent IMG Academy Junior World Championships at Torrey Pines in California. Hallie, grand-daughter of the legendary Lindy Goggin, had rounds of 78 and 81 before closing with a 1 over par 73 tying for 60th place.
The northern junior body recently held another school holiday series. In the final event at Riverside, Prospect Vale’s Ryan Thomas had a great round of 41 points off a plus 1 handicap with Deloraine’s Jack Blair runner up. Lily Caelli of Prospect Vale won the girls’ trophy ahead of Mowbray’s Jorjah Bailey and Riverside’s Alexandria Hansen.
Golf Tasmania has reappointed Nick White as coach and Gary Purdon as manager of the Men’s State Team while the Junior Team will again be coached by Bryce Gorham and managed by Mark Schulze.
The women’s team has new coach Simon Weston with Zibeth Daubenton reappointed as manager.
Golf Tasmania has announced that the state’s High Performance Coaches will be Christian Rainey (South), Bryce Gorham (North) and Darren Spencer (North West). Among the items discussed at Northern Golf’s recent meeting was a proposal for a play-off in future for any divisions where there has been a tie after home-and-away matches.
This comes in response to the situation where the Division One pennant saw Launceston and Mowbray tie, with Launceston awarded the pennant after a countback. The committee with discuss the proposal further.
At Riverside, Dallas McCulloch and Peter Ashdown teamed well to win the best ball stableford on Saturday with 50 points
