The Queensland-based flyweight (52 kilograms) was among eight Australian boxers who qualified through the Oceania Championships.
“Eight weeks until world championships and I’ll be there for nothing but a gold medal,” he said on Facebook.
Having represented Australia at youth level, Blizzard’s move to Pomona to further his boxing career has certainly paid off and he also remains a chance for selection to next year's Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
Held every two years by the world’s governing body for amateur boxing, the world championships require boxers to reach the final of their weight division in their region’s championships.
Australia is part of the Oceania region, along with 13 other countries.
With 10 weight divisions, there were 20 world championship spots up for grabs at the Oceania Boxing Championships on the Gold Coast last week.
Australia won gold medals in six divisions, with a further two Aussie boxers earning selection by reaching their finals.
Also on the team are Alex Winwood (WA, 49kg), Sam Goodman (NSW, 56kg), Harry Garside (Victoria, 60kg), Andrew Hunt (Queensland, 69kg), Clay Waterman (Queensland, 81kg), Jason Whateley (Victoria, 91kg), Joe Goodall (Queensland, 91kg+).
