Howlett, 20, was successful in 2013 and again last year when he beat Nick Brockman by one point.
Only two drivers have won the series three times – Tammy Mollross in 1991, 1992 and 1993 and Nathan Garwood in 1999, 2000 and 2001.
This year’s Youngbloods Challenge starts in Devonport on Friday night and will continue in Hobart on Sunday night and Launceston on Sunday week.
The drivers selected are Nick Brockman, Dylan Ford, Taylor Ford, Samantha Freeman, Samantha Gangell, Justin Howlett, Matthew Howlett, Jack Laugher, Hannah Vandongen and Brady Woods. The emergency is Wade Rattray.
They are the top five drivers from last season and top five on this season’s premiership table.
Kings Meadows driver Hannah Vandongen, 21, is the only newcomer to the series.
She is a racing all-rounder as she also rides trackwork for gallops trainers Tanya and Ken Hanson and Cameron Thompson.
The series is being sponsored for the 18th year in a row by 6tyo’s Chester Bullock.
“6tyo is proud to be involved – the series allows our emerging young drivers to compete against each other in quality races,” Bullock said.
“With all races being non penalty for the winning horses, I anticipate good support for the series from owners and trainers.”
