Salter, who is known for solo and colloboration work, will perform in the city on Thursday night (March 23) as part of a mini-tour of the state.
He has been a part of the Australian music scene since the late 1990s, when he started the Giants of Science out of Brisbane.
Never one to keep his hands still, he went on to form, perform and record with bands such as The Gin Club, The Wilson Pickers, and The Young Liberals.
The Wilson Pickers released their latest album last year (You Can’t Catch Fish from a Train), which scored them their second ARIA award nomination, for best blues and roots album.
He has also been a strong background influence for some of the country’s most-loved household names, and has collaborated with the likes of Tim Rogers, from You Am I, Bernard Fanning from Powderfinger, and Gareth Liddiard, from The Drones.
Despite all this, Salter’s solo work never took a back seat, and he has released two albums and an EP, the most recent 2015’s The Stars My Destination.
See Salter at Saint John Craft Beer on Thursday, from 7pm. Tickets start from $10 online via Oztix, or on the door for $15. He’ll be joined by Tassie musician Emma Anglesey. He will also play Hobart on Friday: visit bensalter.com.au for details.
