Asta tours Launceston with Shine EP

Four years since bursting onto the scene with the single My Heart Is On Fire, the Hobart-born 23-year-old will visit Launceston this weekend to tour her debut EP Shine, which was released last month.

Speaking ahead of her show at Club 54, Asta - real name Asta Binnie-Ireland - said meeting fans had been the highlight of the tour so far.

“I haven't really done many tours before so it’s been amazing to see my fans and actually meet a lot of people and talk to people,” Binnie-Ireland said. 

“That’s been a real highlight because you can get played on the radio but you don't actually know what's happening, it doesn't really come into reality until you're seeing people and hearing stories.

“One couple was like 'we met at your gig years ago and now we want to get married to one of your songs’ and that’s just mind-blowing, I find that so weird, so it's been so awesome just to meet people and talk to people.”

Binnie-Ireland has regularly released singles since 2012, collaborating with Allday in 2015 to reach #66 on the ARIA charts with Dynamite. 

But there’s something special about touring with an EP. 

“It’s been awesome to finally have music out there, a collection of songs to show people, so it’s awesome to be able to play those songs and for people to know the songs and sing along.

“But it's definitely been exhausting, touring is pretty hard on your body but you're just so high after doing a show so you're in this weird state of being tired but also really happy.” 

Despite the full-on nature of life on the road, Binnie-Ireland says she has no immediate plans to relax after the tour.

“I think I’m actually getting back into the studio with (Melbourne producer) Yeo so I’m going to get stuck into writing again.

“I'm really looking forward to seeing him again and making new music, so not too much rest.” 

Asta will play at Club 54 at 8pm on March 18 with support from Northern Tasmanian acts Sumner and FLXW.
