The 20-year-old from Melbourne was tipped early on at the 2017 Caterpillar Burnie International and hasn’t disappointed.
Mott defeated fellow Australian and qualifier Maverick Banes in the quarter-finals in Thursday but it wasn’t all one way on the court.
Mott took the first set with relative ease 6-2 but before Banes didn’t lay down in the second.
The 24-year-old from the Gold Coast hist back to take the second set in a tie-breaker 7-6 to level the game and take it to an enticing third set.
But the highly fancied Mott was too strong in the deciding set, taking the win 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 to book his spot in the semi-finals on Friday.
Over on centre court it was Japanese talent Akira Santillan who also stormed through to the semi-finals.
Santillan was up against a former finalist in Australian Alex Bolt with the match proving to be an interesting arm wrestle.
Santillan took the first set 6-3 and looked in cruise control early but 24-year-old Bolt hit back in the second to level the scores, winning 6-4.
But much like the first quarter-final, Santillan proved too strong in the final set, taking the win 6-2 to progress further in the tournament.
In the third men’s encounter it was Kazakhstan’s Dmitry Popko who made it through with a straight sets win over Australian Christopher O’Connell, 6-1, 6-4.
In the women’s competition it was American duo Taylor Townsend and Asia Muhammad who have dominated the women’s final four.
Townsend defeated Aussie Olivia Rogowska 6-3, 6-3 while Muhammad knocked out Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek 7-5, 6-3.
Experienced Aussie Arina Rodionova also moved through to the semi-finals with an impressive 6-3, 6-2 win over Russia’s Elizaveta Kulichkova.
In the final spot will be Marie Bouzkova who was too strong for the impressive qualifier Aleksandra Wozniak.
Bouzkova was unstoppable in the first set, winning 6-0 before finishing off her Canadian opponent 6-4 in the second.
In Friday night’s feature match it was Australian Omar Jasika against experienced campaigner Matthew Ebden to decide the final semi-final spot.
A late doubles match also featured on centre court as Aussie pair Steven De Waard and Luke Saville went up against Alex Bolt and Andrew Whittington for a spot in the semi-finals to be played on Friday.
