Shooters Grant Ellis and Phil Turner proved the toast of the opening day of the state trap championships at the Tasmanian Gun Club.

The Tasmanian Clay Target Association’s annual competition at Evandale witnessed perfect shooting from Ellis, Turner and Hayden Stafford, who took out the 50 target state handicap on Friday.
Stafford scored 67 from 67 shots to win by one from Paul Mota with Tim Steer finishing third with 65 from 67.
Sandy Ellis was also in perfect form to hit 50 from 50 in the ladies 50 target state handicap and fifth overall.
Macka Codrington won the juniors with 54 from 55, as John Crosswell collected the win in the veterans with 52 from 53.
Ellis had returned with a perfect 70 from 70 in the 25 pair state double rise championship to be awarded its overall winner.
Turner shot 50 from 50 to win the veterans division to add to his 69 from 70 to also claim the state double rise AA grade competition.
Matthew Bebend also a had good day on the range, hitting 47 from 50 to capture the A grade.
Fiona Atkins scored 46 from 50 to not only claim the B grade, but also the ladies division.
Clark Lamprill was the C grade winner following his 44 from 50 shots on target.
Mitchell Iles also proved to be a standout in the junior division to shoot 48 from 50.
In an historic day for Tasmanian clay target shooting, brothers Sperry and Paul Marshall, and Launceston’s Jack Blake were inducted into inaugural the hall of fame.
