The state’s B1 women defeated Western Australia 44-33 at Elphin Stadium to secure the championship, thanks largely to Laura and Sarah Bestwick scoring 15 points apiece.
Tasmania were not so lucky in the A men’s decider – their first top-flight final in years – falling 19 points short of WA. The hosts were right in the match until three-quarter time before the victors pulled away to win 60-41.
Jamie Mesman was the state’s star with 17 points.
Tasmania also lost their B2 men’s final to Victoria 51-42 and B2 Women’s decider to WA 50-21.
Co-tournament director Samantha Chilcott said about 200 players spent the past week vying for success.
“There were 12 Tassie teams that took part with about five teams per grade,” Chilcott said.
“Overall it was a fantastic result for Tasmania to make four finals and to come away with one trophy is great.”
Chilcott thanked everyone involved in the tournament for their time and effort.
