The 60-year-old, Launceston GP, has played NTCA, TCA and TCL cricket – the last 11 years with Trevallyn as an opening batsman in A-reserve and Premier League, as well as taking part in a seniors’ roster.
“There was recently a seniors (over 60s) carnival in Perth, Western Australia where all the state teams played which I took part in and batted fairly well,” Richardson said.
“And then I played against England a week or so ago in Melbourne for a combined Tasmanian-Victorian team and got enough runs that they put me into the Australian team for third of the one-day internationals in Adelaide against their touring team.
“It was pretty amazing when I found out I had picked because I didn’t think anything like that would happen. I owe this to the Trevallyn Club for all their support over the last 11 years.”
