The award is decided on the 24 state titles on offer throughout the season with the Gowrie Park axeman also looking to defend his Tasmanian 300-millimetre underhand championship.
Steers will be up against former world underhand champion Stephen Foster and world teams champion Dale Beams.
The program will start at 9.30am with Steers and Beams to form a formidable combination in the double-handed sawing championship event, having just won the Australian title at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Saturday’s 300mm tree-felling handicap will be a battle between Deloraine father and son Matthew and Daniel Gurr.
Other events include the first round of the junior series, a 300mm underhand, 250mm standing, 300mm frontmarkers and 450mm double-handed sawing handicap events.
