The 16-year-old was the sole Tasmanian in the Australian team that won the International Futsal Alliance world cup in the Scottish city of Dundee.
The St Patrick’s College student, who plays soccer for Launceston City and futsal at Elphin Sports Centre, said he was proud to be part of the team that defeated Pakistan, USA and Scotland before also winning their semi and final.
“It was a great experience and an absolute honour to play for my country at that level,” Linger said.
“The standard was really high. The other countries were really well drilled and tactically very good.”
Linger faced a long road to reach Scotland, attending trials to make the Tasmania team then playing in the Australian Futsal Association championships held each year in Penrith from which a group of 35 players was selected.
