Tasmania is world renowned for its beauty – its picturesque coastal areas and superb national parks. And Conservation Volunteers Australia are determined to keep Tasmania beautiful.
Working with volunteers from all walks of life, CVA are re-connecting people to the outdoors.
“Volunteers are so important to the whole community and while some may like to volunteer in hospitals or with people, we attract volunteers who love the outdoors.
“It’s a great experience, getting out in the fresh air and doing something worthwhile for the environment and the community. ” Regional coordinator James Montgomery
Everyday is different when volunteering with CVA with so much ground to cover, you really don’t know what the day will hold.
“We visit over 50 reserves, so there is a variety of locations and the work is always different, you could be working in Launceston gorge one day and on the coast the next.
“We provide volunteers with everything they need, from transport to training and equipment, they only need to bring their pack lunch and bottle of water for the day.
“Most of our days start at 8:30am and we always aim to come back between 2:30 and 3pm.” Mr Montgomery said.

Volunteers can currently participate in the numerous Parks and Reserves around Launceston where CVA help maintain walking trails, remove invasive weeds and clean up waterways.
Some more marine debris and wildlife monitoring activities in conjunction with Natural Resource Management (NRM) North are on the cards too.
A great social aspect has also evolved within the volunteers with a great mix of people getting involved.
Volunteers include students, professionals, international visitors, retirees, in fact almost anybody can get involved. You don’t need any prior skills or experience, just a reasonable level of health and fitness.
“There is a great variety of people who do volunteer for us, from all backgrounds, it is a great way to get out and meet people, especially if you are new to the area.
“We of course have our regulars, one of our volunteers is 73, he is our most senior and he is still very physically active and just loves to get outdoors.” Mr Montgomery said.
Being a not for profit organisation CVA dedicate themselves to conserving the state’s beauty and volunteers are always welcomed.
CVA are located at 87 George Street, Launceston, where you can call in and chat to both James and Grant about your volunteering options or contact them on: 03 6334 9985.
