The City team went through the season undefeated and beat Hobart opponent YMCA Hawks 44-42 in extra time to win its only state flag on September 15, 1962, in Hobart.
It will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the achievement at Launceston's Duke of Wellington Bar & Bistro on Saturday, October 6, at 5.30pm.
Former team member Ron Wilson said the City side played in the Northern Tasmanian Basketball Association.
``We had to go down to Hobart and play the North-West regional premier in an elimination on the Friday night and then the Southern premier the following night,'' Wilson said.
``We were only an amateur team and most of our players were under 20 and we played against a men's state side in Hobart and beat them.''
Wilson said in those days Australian club championships were held each year and the City team went to Melbourne to represent the state.
``We played against premiership sides from South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales and some visiting US air force teams in an invitation tournament but were outclassed against bigger men,'' Wilson said.
The 1962 City basketball team was the forerunner of the City of Launceston basketball side.
Wilson said organisers were expecting about 70 people at the reunion.
``We've got David Claxton, Wayne Chugg and John Randall coming back from Queensland and we've lots of other former state players from all walks of life and sporting bodies who are coming.''
Anyone interested in attending the reunion should contact Wilson on 6343 1194.
