Jenkins instructed about 20 riders of various levels and ages in private and group lessons mainly centred on show jumping.
‘‘The Faulkner Park facility is part of the Launceston Grammar School grounds and we are keen to get it up and going as an equestrian centre,’’ Grammar equestrian coach Amanda Cameron said.
‘‘It was unused land next to the soccer grounds and we’ve had volunteers come on board to do a lot of work helping to prepare and maintain the ground.
‘‘This is the first time the centre has been used for competition and training, and now it is open to the public for hire.
‘‘We are hoping we can get some interest from other equestrian groups to hold events here in the next year or two, and because it is volunteer-run and self-funded, we need to help bring some money in that we can then put into further developing the grounds.’’
Cameron said the centre was also well-supported by the school and further development plans would look at placing sand on the arena and the building of new yards and fencing.
Inquiries about hiring the centre should be directed to the Launceston Grammar School.
