Hayes was in town to sign copies of his recently released autobiography Lenny: My Story.
He was greeted to hundreds of fans at Petrarch's Book Shop in Launceston.
Hayes, a former club captain, played 297 games for the Saints from his debut in 1999 to the end of this season.
The three-time best and fairest and three-time All Australian won the Norm Smith Medal as best on ground in the drawn grand final against Collingwood in 2010.
