The Launceston Golf Club members claimed the Australian Father-Son Golf Championships late last year and earned the right to compete on the world stage.
Yesterday, a calm and confident Terry Smith said the priority was to have fun together and make the most of their first trip to South Africa.
‘‘We’re taking it pretty seriously, but we’re there to have fun together,’’ he said.
‘‘If we don’t win, it doesn’t worry us too much.’’
The duo has never competed overseas together and the competition will mark the start of a busy period for Sam, who will soon begin his quest for a professional golf contract.
‘‘Golf is a dream for Sam, he’s trying to go pro,’’ Terry said.
‘‘After our 20-hour flight home from South Africa, he has to jump straight in the car to Devonport to begin his five playing rounds.’’
Despite Sam still recovering from a minor motorbike accident suffered recently, both agree the invitation to compete in South Africa is a dream come true.
The pair will fly out tomorrow, with tee-off in South Africa to take place next Saturday.
