Jordan Charles Garcie, 20, of Invermay, sat in the dock today in the Launceston Magistrates Court after having spent a week remanded in custody.
Magistrate Reg Marron delivered Garcie's sentence, prepared by Magistrate Tim Hill, because Mr Hill was unwell.
Mr Marron jailed Garcie for five months, backdated to July 4, with the last two months suspended for 18 months.
He said Garcie's victims suffered significant physical injuries.
Mr Marron said ``mindless violence'' could not be tolerated in a civilised society and must be condemned.
The two men were unknown to Garcie and his attacks were unprovoked.
Garcie struck the first man to the face inside late-night takeaway outlet Pizza Kom in the early hours of August 11 last year.
He hit the second man in the face in the street, after the man asked Garcie if he had hit his friend.
