Mr Croome was the face of a successful campaign to decriminalise homosexuality in Tasmania, which was listed on state law books as a criminal offence with a penalty of up to 25 years in jail, until 1997.
Now, as the spokesman for the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group and Australian Marriage Equality's campaign co-ordinator, he has battled for equality for homosexuals in other areas of life, particularly in marriage and surrogacy laws.
Mr Croome believes that as well as being a win for equality, if Tasmania was the first Australian state to legalise same-sex marriage, it could win at least million in wedding spend alone. This would be on top of any potential economic gains that might come from tourism.
Readers of The Examiner have the rare chance to spend an hour with Mr Croome, firing questions or comment at him from 12.30pm today. To join the discussion, visit www.examiner.com.au.
