But if they fill the dance floor, Tim Campbell says it doesn't matter.
The 38-year-old stage and TV star is grooving his way across the country, performing his favourite feel-good hits for the High School Disco tour.
A high school student of the late '80s and early '90s, the former Home and Away actor said the hardest part of the show was narrowing down the set list.
"I tell people, if the song was written after 1995, I don't care about it," Campbell said.
"I've tried current pop music, but I just can't do it.
"Stuff like George Michael, Madonna, Bon Jovi ... I know it's not cool or trendy, but this is the stuff I do, this is the stuff that works.
"Every time I do a gig with these songs, no matter what the age is, the dance floor is always full."
Campbell will bring his show to Launceston and Hobart on June 27 and 28.
The Sydneysider said he had fond memories of Tasmania, having hosted the first series of television tourism show Discover Tasmania in 2007.
"I wasn't sure at first if we could do Tassie, but my experiences here had been so great, that I really wanted to push it," he said.
"Stanley, Strahan, Freycinet, Mount Wellington - they are all brilliant.
"If I can get to the Salamanca markets and MONA this time around, I'll be happy."
Included in the High School Disco show will be classics such as Play That Funky Music, Footloose, Shake Your Groove Thing, Centrefold, My Sharona and Can You Feel It? - with Campbell expecting each song to bring back a memory.
"That's exactly why I am doing these gigs, why I did the album. It is just good music that I like," he said.
"People need to know that it's OK to like this music, and that it's OK to like it today."
