After dominating its season-opening, stand-alone clash against Devonport to record a 74-point victory, the Storm will be keen to reaffirm its warning to other TSL clubs that there is a new force in the competition.

Coach Mitch Hills was happy with his team's inaugural victory but highlighted that there were areas for improvement against the Blues.

``We've got a lot of upside that's for sure,'' Hills said.

``A lot of people probably thought we'd have it all our own way but it was never going to be the case.

``We've got a lot to work on and a lot of guys were down tonight that probably shouldn't have been being fresh and the first game.

``We've got a lot of things to address during the week and hopefully start a bit stronger against Launceston next week.''

Hills praised big man Bart McCulloch for getting the Storm going in the second half against Devonport and is hoping for a big season from the former Brisbane Lions recruit.

``All the boys give him a bit of stick during the week and he doesn't train sometimes and has a few niggles here and there,'' he said.

``But he knows his body and when he is confident in his body no-one is going to be able to stop him.

``That's just one step and we want him to be really consistent this year because he was a bit up and down last year.

``He can be the best player in the comp and he knows that so we're looking for consistent effort and when he does that he is going to be hard to stop.''

Hills said it would take time for some of the Storm's younger players such as Tim Jones, Billy Jack, Kallem Barker and Lewis Ritchie to step up to the tempo of TSL footy.

``You can't expect those guys to step up and shine from NTFA footy straight away.

``They've got the ability but it is going to take time for them to come up to this level and we know that and our expectations are not too high.''
