Cassy was a Minister in the Labor-Green government, with portfolio responsibility for Human Services, Community Development, Aboriginal Affairs and Climate Change.
As Minister, she worked constructively to deliver an NDIS Launch to Tasmania, the State's first elder abuse prevention strategy, working with vulnerable people checks and 9500 energy efficiency upgrades, saving low income households, community groups and small business hundreds of dollars a year on power costs.
She also brought climate campaigners, scientists, farmers, major industrials and government together to deliver the Climate Smart 2020 strategy to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Cassy passionately believes Tasmania will be 100% renewably powered by 2020 and creating jobs in the clean, low carbon industries of the future.
Cassy believes the key elements of a prosperous inclusive future are:
- Increased investment in lifelong education, preventative health and community supports,
- Building more affordable and energy efficient housing,
- Enabling new jobs in aged and disability services, jobs for people living with disability and former humanitarian entrants,
- Working with our major industrials to be as clean in their operations as they can be and going out hard to attract other major clean industrials like data centres who want to identify with the 100% renewable brand
- Supporting the ICT and creative industries and small business,
- Profiting through protecting Tasmania's carbon-sink forests,
- Facilitating sustainable growth through increased interstate and global marketing of our wilderness, heritage and cultural tourism assets,
- Strengthening and aggressively promoting our clean, GE-free brand,
- Enabling and promoting a diversified and sustainable timber industry.
