I moved to Tasmania in 2001 with my husband after 17 years working as a teacher in Indonesia because of Tasmania's unique environment.
In 2006, after running B&Bs in Hobart, we moved into the Franklin electorate to run a B&B and a small vineyard.
The Franklin electorate contains some of the jewels of Tasmanian tourism and I believe my extensive experience in tourism, together with my expertise in education and community service offer the electors in Franklin a powerful advocate in parliament.
The small business sector is the engine room of the Tasmanian economy. This is particularly true in Franklin, where small business has the potential to employ many young Tasmanians in a broad range of areas and keep our kids at home.
My philosophy of life is to leave a positive mark on any community in which we live. We are active members of, amongst other things, the Rotary Club of Kingston.
I have worked overseas on various aid and development projects such as Rotary International's Rotahome project in Fiji, an orphanage in Sumatra, a not-for-profit furniture outlet in Java employing 10 craftsmen and I was one of the first expatriates to work in Aceh, on relief projects after the Boxing Day Tsunami.
My belief is that the creation of opportunities for gainful employment is the way to lift the economy and morale in the community and if elected that will be my absolute priority for Franklin and Tasmania.
