Matthew is a seventh generation Tasmanian who lives in Hobart with his wife Ruth and their three young children, Chloe, Josh and Meg.

Matthew was first elected to the Tasmanian Parliament as the Liberal Member for Denison in March 2010. Upon being elected he was appointed to the Shadow Cabinet and currently serves as Shadow Minister for Energy, Environment, Parks, Heritage, Climate Change and Sustainable Transport.
Matthew is a graduate of the University of Tasmania, having successfully completed an Arts/Law degree with a major in political science. He also has post-graduate qualifications having completed a Master of Laws degree at the University of Melbourne.
Prior to entering Parliament, Matthew achieved considerable success professionally with over 15 years of national and international business experience and a specific expertise in renewable energy development. Matthew also has experience in mergers and acquisitions; project finance; joint ventures and international investment structures.
Matthew believes in the importance of more effectively leveraging off our natural competitive advantages in order to facilitate growth and investment and create greater job opportunities for Tasmanians. Matthew is also committed to advocating for Tasmania securing a greater share of national opportunities.
