LAUNCESTON'S Will Ashley-Jones won the inaugural Launceston Triathlon Club long- course, off-road triathlon at the Trevallyn Reserve yesterday.
Ashley-Jones was the first male to cross the line after completing the 800-metre swim, 13.3km mountain bike ride and a 5.8km trail run, in a time of 1 hour, 16 minutes and 25 seconds.
Launceston's Paul McKenzie finished second in 1:17.04 with Dylan Hill third in 1:17.46. The women's winner was Rae Dowling in 2:03.26, from Narelle Wynwood and Kate Clark. The team's category was won by Aquatic.
The sprint distance winners over a 400m swim, 7.5km mountain bike and 3.5km run were Shad Hearn in 53.03 and Lisa Barnett in 1:00.18.
"All up we had about 60 competitors and for the first one we've held we were pretty happy with the numbers," race director Ben Mather said.
"Some of the LTC members might have been a bit dubious about jumping on the mountain bike having not done a lot before but it was a good test for them and everyone went away pretty happy."
