The club's favourite son, Ricky Ponting, will be involved along with a few of his cricketing mates who will tee it up against the professionals in an 18-hole tournament open to all amateur golfers.
Mowbray Golf Club executive officer Adrian Dennis said Ponting wanted to give something back to the club at which he first started playing golf and where his family members play.
The PGA professionals will be competing for a prize fund of $10,000, and there will be an array of prizes for the amateur teams on the day.
The event will take the form of a morning shotgun start at 7.30 and an afternoon shotgun start at 12.30.
The cost for a spot in the morning field with a professional will be $100.
Breakfast and lunch is included with some lunchtime drinks.
The afternoon field will have an all-inclusive lunch and drinks, on-course drinks and be treated to a two-course gala dinner with Ponting and friends for the cost of $400.
Dennis said those attending the dinner would have the opportunity to listen to Ponting and his celebrity guests speak about their experiences and careers.
The professionals will be partnered with three amateurs as will the celebrities and contest a stableford teams event with two scores to count on each hole.
There will be nearest-the-pin events and a long drive all with terrific prizes.
``Corporate groups are encouraged to support the event and perhaps treat their clients with an all too rare opportunity to rub shoulders with some of their idols,'' Dennis said.
``As with most gala dinners of this nature there will be spirited bidding for some memorabilia, which will be auctioned off during the evening.''
