Withington coached the Tasmania team to victory through a round-robin tournament at the Australian Masters Championship in Sydney earlier this month.
After defeating New South Wales 3-1 in the semi-final, they beat Victoria 1-0.
It was the second time the team left the national competition triumphant after a resounding win last year.
``The weather was warmer than we're used to, but we were a bit fitter than the other team,'' Withington said.
The Queechy midfielder, who represented Australia in New Zealand earlier this year, said selection for the national team was a ``pleasant surprise''.
The team will travel to Barcelona and Rotterdam next May and play teams from Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand and Great Britain.
Withington commended the strong hockey coming out of the state.
``We seem to do really well,'' he said.
``Hobart has the strongest competition in the state and there are a lot of good players out of that.''
