Coyle, who won a number of Sheffield Shield and one-day titles as coach of the Tigers' team, was also named the national program manager/coordinator of fielding and wicket-keeping.
Coyle stood down at the end of last season, and will join the Southern Stars as assistant coach for their upcoming women's Ashes Series in England in August.
"I'm excited about the next phase of my coaching career and taking on this diverse role that will enable me to work across men's and women's programs within Australian cricket," Coyle told the Cricket Australia website.
"Working with a national program as part of the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars team is an exciting opportunity for me as a coach.
"I'm looking forward to working with a world champion team, particularly as we head into back-to-back Women's Ashes campaigns and work to maintain our status as the number one team in the world.
"Working in the women's national program will provide a new challenge for me and expose me to a different pathway within Australian cricket.
"I'm very passionate about fielding and wicket keeping and have spent much of my career focusing on these disciplines. I'm looking forward to working across all State and Territory Associations to ensure that Australia produces the best fielders and wicketkeepers in the world.''
