Latrobe Swim Club competitor Sam Curtis, 14, and Riverside Swim Club's Amelia Campbell, 20, won the open men's and women's 2-kilometre races in the sheltered bay under Devonport Bluff.
Choppy ocean conditions saw organisers alter the course to Club 2 Club, to get as many swimmers into the water as possible.
Race spokesman Adrian Triffett said that in the end a field of 200 took to the 18-degree water, with competitors ranging in age from 7 to 70.
Curtis, a national 800-metre freestyle bronze medallist, and Campbell, the Tasmanian female 1500m and 800m champion, showed their pedigree to claim the $200 cash prize and $200 trophy watch.
The junior race was won by Ulverstone's Jessie Purton and Jessica Hardstaff, of Launceston, while Anthony Duda and Anita Jack won the men's and women's masters titles.
An interesting sidebar to this year's competition was the three-way battle between the pool, surf and triathlon swimmers.
The battle of the codes, which was decided by the first 10 places in each category, saw the pool swimmers come out on top.
