Walking the streets of Launceston, a group of artists has discovered their photographic talents, which has culminated in a new exhibition at Sawtooth ARI.
Studio Space Inclusive Arts is St.Giles' arts group for all things drama, theatre, dance, singing, radio, podcasting, and photography related.
Under the guidance of teacher Sarah Rhodes, those taking part in the PhotograMe program over the past three years have been experiencing Launceston through the lens of a camera.
"We were just wandering around taking pictures every week and it felt as though, with all this work, it would be nice to bring it together and show people what we were doing. It just felt like an exhibition would be a great way of honouring the group," Ms Rhodes said.
Five artists have their work displayed in the exhibit, which not only shows the photographs, but is also combined with text and a mural of old tramlines.
"The visual literacy and sophistication of the pictures has become quite strong. Some of them are consistent and others have these flashes of brilliance," Ms Rhodes said.
"The styles are becoming more uniquely theirs."
In the artist statement, each artist was described as having a particular field or thing they gravitated towards.
Rohan Connolly was drawn to dogs, Liam Connolly to signs, Taylor Hart to vibrant colour, and Amy Lewis and Bronte Hart to composition.
Rohan had been doing photography since before the program started, but said the sessions had helped him develop his own style.
"Most of the time I do landscape work, sometimes taking photos of lots of trees and the sky, flowers, and animals," he said.
Walk with Me shows at Sawtooth ARI from November 5 until December 5.
PhotograMe runs each Thursday from 4.30pm, with anyone welcome to join.
