Former Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson has signed on with the Tasmanian Government for a six-month advisory role for the pursuit of a state-based team.
Premier Peter Gutwein said Mr Clarkson would provide advice on funding, stadiums, talent identification pathways, and membership.
He said the state would not only benefit from the premiership coach's knowledge of the game, but contacts from player and administrative levels.
Mr Gutwein said Mr Clarkson would initially be contracted for six months.
In another sporting announcement, Mr Gutwein said there would be 14 NBL pre-season games held in Tasmania next month with games to be played in Kingborough, Hobart, Launceston and Ulverstone.
He said there would be two WNBL games played in Tasmania as well.
The games will be broadcast across the country on ESPN and Foxtel.
