Natalie Maher has pleaded not guilty to killing her mother

Natalie Maher, 46, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of her 71-year-old mother Veronica Corstorphine in South Launceston between October 3 and 5 in 2019.

A twelve person jury with two reserves was sworn in for the trial which could run until early November. The issue of the vaccination status of fellow jurors was not raised by any jurors during the selection process.

After the swearing in the trial was adjourned for legal argument until 2.15pm on October 13.

Justice Robert Pearce told the jury that a number of witnesses would give evidence from interstate including sisters of Mrs Corstorphine and Ms Maher's former mother in law.

He gave an outline to the jury saying that the deceased was living in Keane St South Launceston at the time of her death.

Mrs Corstorphine moved to Tasmania from Queensland three years before her death. Previous directions hearings were told that the Crown provided eight volumes of material to Ms Maher's defence counsel Evan Hughes.
