Riverside Olympic goalkeeper Jarrod Hill moves to Melbourne club

Although not turning 20 until February, Hill has established himself among the state's top keepers and was both Olympic's player of the year and NPL Tasmania rising star for 2019.

Formerly a regular member of Northern and state junior rep teams, he has been almost ever-present between the sticks since Alex Gaetani's side made the step up to statewide competition.

Moving to Victoria to join state league side Beaumaris, Hill leaves with countless fond memories from Windsor Park.

"I'm really going to miss it. It's an awesome club and has been my second home for so long," he said.

"The last couple of years have been tough on the pitch as a new team down the lower end of the table but with the direction the club is heading under Alex they are only going up. They have a lot of young players and are going to be amazing."

The former Riverside Primary and High plus Launceston College and UTas student, who is seeking to study teaching at Deakin University, is excited by his prospects at Beaumaris.

"The head coach got in touch and I spoke with their president. I have not been over there yet, I'll find out more when I get there.

"It is a step up. It's a very young team in a nice area of south-east Melbourne that are looking to get into the NPL league.

"I'm still trying to see how far I can go and hopefully this is a nice stepping stone. This might be as far as I can go but hopefully I can push on to a higher level, we'll wait and see.

"I'm a bit nervous. It'll be very different to living out of home. But my mum's tried to teach me some cooking and I've even had to do a bit of ironing. It's going to be an interesting couple of weeks."

There's two. In 2018 we were playing Devonport at home and had to win or draw to win the (Northern Championship) title. Taylor Neilson scored a header and Trent Mitchell added a penalty and we won 2-1. Then there was our first NPL win in 2019 when Rhys Kinslow scored the winner up at Launnie City.

I saved a penalty from Ben Hamlett that helped us get a draw against South Hobart. Straight afterwards Jono O'Neill cleared the ball off the goal line. I remember South Hobart weren't happy that day.

I love playing against my mates so it would have to be Charlie Dyer at Launnie City. I've played a lot of junior games against him and rep games with him. We always have a good laugh and I always made it a mission for him not to score against me.

Playing a junior rep game for the NTJSA against Central from Hobart and our centre-back Ryan Lawson was one-on-one with their forward. Ryan tripped over his own shoe laces but a free-kick was given against the forward and their crowd went right off. We couldn't stop laughing.

I just loved playing with those guys. I've been playing with people like Jasper King for something like 13 years and it's going to be weird not playing with him and several others that I've known in juniors and seniors. It'll be very different looking up and not seeing them."
