NORTHERN MIDLANDS COUNCIL CANDIDATES
DEPUTY MAYOR CANDIDATES
After 24 years in State and Federal politics, I am keen to continue working for my local communities.
I have a thorough understanding of the processes of all levels of government, having served as Deputy Speaker in the State and on the Speakers Panel federally.
My vision for the Northern Midlands is to make it a great place to live; to provide infrastructure to bring business into our municipality and to promote our varied and wonderful tourist attractions beyond the highway.
Our remarkable history across the Macquarie Plains provide huge and varied opportunities for new jobs and new enterprises.
I am a family man and reside with my wife Kate in Longford.
I have lived most of my life in the Northern Midlands where I hold a senior position in the rural industry.
I am an experienced Councillor who stands up for the local community.
I offer myself for re-election because I am committed to providing an independent, practical and balanced approach to council.
I understand the challenge any Council faces is to deliver value to its ratepayers.
Your vote for Andrew Calvert is a vote for economic growth and development, creating job opportunities in Northern Midlands.
Vote 1 Calvert Andrew.
I am an experienced Councillor and have helped create a financially viable organisation that delivers improvements on infrastructure and facilities that our communities need.
Keeping rate rises to a minimum.
I support appropriate economic development within our Council area and region.
I wish to work towards reducing the cost of living pressures on families, especially the cost of water.
If elected Mayor, I want to lead a consultative Council that listens and works together to address community concerns.
If elected I will work for you.
Having served on Council for 14 yrs I have been instrumental in achieving results including minimising rate increases and the development of the Translink area.
As a member of the Business Association I am also focused on the development of a local agricultural business precinct for Cressy.
Being an active member of various committees including Chairman of the Eskleigh Community Shed, I am passionate about strengthening local business, residential growth and enhancing our unique lifestyle.
To best represent you I ask for your support in my bid for Deputy Mayor.
Please contact 0409700099.
I have always taken a keen interest in our local community and am currently a member of the Campbell Town Hospital Board and President of the Garden Club.
I believe in the people of our community and as a mother of two and the owner of The Cupboard Hair Studio, I understand the stresses that life delivers.
We can work together as a team and be inspired by new and exciting ideas involving our young innovators with the community spirit.
With a positive attitude we can embrace the future together.
Lets join together and do our very best to make "The Midlands the place to be".
Councillor for 7 years.
3 years as member of the executive team along with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
I have held the position of Acting Mayor.
I contributed significantly to the development of: treated water to Cressy, Campbell Town and Ross, entrance roundabout at Longford, upgrade at Cressy Swimming Pool, establishment of the Cressy and Longford District Forums and assisting Morven Park Committee.
If elected I will canvas for: Longford Recreation Ground and Community Centre upgrade, Northern Midlands Rural Processing centres, consultative transition of the Midlands Highway-Perth Bypass.
During the past five years I have listened to and worked tirelessly to enable community projects to happen and encouraged business and economic development to keep our towns vibrant and viable.
On the Board of Greater Esk Tourism, Heritage Highway Association, Heart FM and other community groups I bring a common sense, down to earth approach to getting things done while using rates wisely.
I will continue to promote the Northern Midlands as a place for families and progressive development which supports farmers, industry, small business, tourist opportunities and infrastructure maintenance.
An independent voice making balanced decisions based on common-sense, not influenced by factions.
Passionate about maintaining the unique lifestyle we enjoy.
Advocating for minimum rate rises, upgrading infrastructure ensuring each community receives its fair share and council funds are managed fairly in accordance with budget constraints.
Continuation of pensioner rate discounts, improved tourism opportunities and support towns affected by the bypass.
Increased promotion of the area is needed to encourage business/residential growth and local employment opportunities.
Engaged and listening.
Council must assist all our communities to be socially and economically sustainable.
I have the skills, experience and time to help achieve this.
My action plan includes minimise rate increases; help each town receive a fair share of Council’s resources; provide walking and bike trails plus improved recreation facilities; fight for more primary health services to be delivered to our municipality; assist Perth residents to have a say in the proposed bypass of their town; ensure an ‘open for business’ attitude towards development and growth; capitalise on our built and natural heritage.
I am passionate about both urban & rural Northern Midlands.
My fresh perspective: communication & community consultation on all issues including the Perth-by-pass; concentrate on economic development & sustainability, providing balance between innovative new business opportunities, established industries & the rich, heritage value of the municipality; view tourism beyond heritage; WiFi hotspots in key strategic locations.
We must support community volunteer organisations.
Maintenance of roads & footpaths is vital. “Because we have always done it this way” is no longer good enough.
