CANDIDATES
JOY ALLEN
A councillor for the past 9 years I have the proven experience to provide you with full time strong leadership and commitment to represent your views with integrity and honesty continuing to ensure council is transparent in its decision making.
I will represent the whole of the municipal area. I will encourage community participation and consultation, no reduction in local services, improvement to your basic services and support new business and developers walk through the current red tape which is stifling our economy.
I will encourage council to spent money locally using local contractors.
CAROL BRACKEN
Vote for me - let me help you get more out of your community.
I’m a mother of two children and I own a small business; a hazelnut orchard.
I support activities that engage and involve residents.
I want businesses to thrive sustainably: with locals and tourists supported by services and facilities.
I have the skills. I am a professional project manager with 14 years experience.
I’ve been representing you on council since 2011; helping develop neighbourhood plans for Exeter and Legana, and expanding health and recreation facilities at Riverside.
Our local government funds need to be well managed.
GEOFF DICKINSON
I respectfully ask for your number 1 vote as Councillor.
Why? My experience and qualifications include the planning, budgetary knowledge and skills to know where and how Council’s social infrastructure must be maintained and expanded.
This requires planning and vigilance; I am a realist not a dreamer.
Effectiveness is as important as efficiency.
Intergenerational equity and justice is important to all of us.
I am a sessional Lecturer at AMC/UTAS in Business Studies.
I have held many representative and community roles and am personable, approachable and available.
Hence, vote Dickinson 1.
LYNDEN COLIN FERGUSON
I'm a paramedic with 14 yrs service.
I know and love this community.
And I know what it takes to make difficult decisions, both in the field and as a Manager.
I'm asking you to give me the opportunity to expand my service to you by contributing as a councillor.
I'll make sure your ratepayer funds are used efficiently and the council delivers value.
I'm 38, married with a young family, and live in Riverside.
I know the issues of our community and will work hard for those things we all need.
I stand for teamwork, jobs and action.
We've got a great community, but let's make it better!
ADAM GORE
Community remains central to my life and began with the SLSC in Devonport, leading to 15 years in the Army Reserve.
After meeting my wife Coby Wallace, from Exeter, we settled in Riverside to raise our family.
We love this community and the opportunities it affords, from coaching my son’s soccer team to running a volunteer group that regularly cleans up Tailrace Park.
As a previous small business owner with a degree in business and experience of working with local groups in Tasmania and NSW, I look forward to using my experience to serve the West Tamar and ask you to vote 1 Adam Gore.
CHRISTINA HOLMDAHL
For the past five years as Councillor, the last three also as Deputy Mayor, my role has been to work to provide for the community's well being and to ensure good governance.
I have done this with integrity and competence.
I am now asking for your support in my campaign for Councillor and Mayor.
If re-elected I guarantee full time representation, my commitment to deliver new energy and new ideas to the leadership of the West Tamar municipality and most importantly to ensure the delivery of Council's services to the highest standards.
RICHARD IRELAND
Council has kept the ship steady, but how about some new blood and ideas?
I have a strong business and engineering background and understand Council’s technical issues.
I am VP of the Launceston Chamber of Commerce and Chair of NRM North.
My wife and I have lived in the area for 27 years and raised our family here.
I support the development of services at Legana – the growing community needs a ‘heart’.
I also oppose rate rises – efficiencies within council should come first.
Above all, I give a commitment to listen and act on issues that are important to you.

PETER KAYE
I've been a Councillor on the West Tamar Council for the last couple of years and enjoy keeping an "eagle eye" on how the Council's budgets are spent by asking the hardest question "why?"
I am also a member of the Tourism Committee and Tailrace Committee and certainly play an active role in the promotion of tourism within our municipality, as it undoubtedly does create jobs and economic activity.
I am conducting an internet survey at my personal web page on future garbage collections within the municipality as I believe it is important for ratepayers to have their say on this local issue.
PETER KEARNEY
I love the West Tamar.
The next four years brings great challenges.
With your number one vote and my leadership, experience, judgment and achievements; challenges will become opportunities.
I am a proven performer. See www.peterkearneywtc.com.
Our wonderful lifestyle, environment, talented residents, strong community are strengths.
My inclusive leadership builds these strengths; using local talents, promoting business, good planning, reduced regulation.
I advocate strongly; for our region, for quality government services and against amalgamation.
Peter Kearney; so much done; much more to do!
GEOFF LYONS
I am standing for West Tamar Council as I want to make a contribution to my community.
My working life has been in health, Manager of Beaconsfield Hospital and Business Manager at the LGH.
I had 3 years in the Federal Parliament, I was Secretary and Treasurer of Tamar Valley Homes at Exeter.
I am a Life Member of both Surf Life Saving Tas & Aust and President of the NTFA.
My work at the LGH running one of the largest businesses in Northern Tasmania, in Parliament, a volunteer administrator in sport and aged care are a good background for me to make a contribution on the West Tamar Council.
MARK PRICE
No statement available.
PETER RODGER
As a former Queensland Police Officer (20+yrs), I understand the need for ‘checks and balances’ in an organisation and have experienced the privilege of serving the community.
Since moving to Exeter, my wife and I instantly felt a part of something very special here in the West Tamar.
I am currently self-employed and an active committee member of West Tamar Landcare.
If elected, I will do everything in my power to protect the sense of community that exists here.
I will be honest and equitable and work to ensure that the quality of life in the West Tamar is preserved for future generations.
LUKE SALMON
I am a chartered accountant with more than a decade of experience working with businesses of all sizes, not-for-profit community based groups, and charitable organisations.
I am enthusiastic, qualified and approachable, and seek your number 1 vote for Councillor as I wish to represent you.
I support policies that seek to maximise the efficiency and productivity of all Council operations, policies that support our small businesses and encourage investment, and policies that support the health and well being of our residents.

RICK SHEGOG
Having being your councillor since 2007 & past Deputy Mayor, I feel privileged for the opportunity to run for Mayor.
I am 46, a family man with Christian values & two teenage children.
I’ll strive to keep our area vibrant with projects that are relevant & inclusive of all ages & needs, keep rates low, improve services such as green waste, footpaths & cycle ways.
I'll work to keep our community safe & our elderly living independently longer.
My long experience as a paramedic duty manager, police sgt & current Army Reservist, I've developed my leadership & governance skills to a high level.
JOHN WATSON
John Watson has wide and varied experience as an accountant and as a director of not for profit businesses.
He believes in transparency and good governance.
He is currently a member of the audit committee, a team player, not afraid to ask the hard questions to ensure all parts of West Tamar receive their fair budget allocations.
As a former Senator and current business person, he knows the area well.
He feels we should all work harder for funding from State & Federal Govts for sport and major works, and that amalgamation is not acceptable for sustainable entities that perform well.
SVEN WIENER
With council elections now being held only every four years and the Tas Liberals having cut back the funding of the Tas Integrity Commission quite severely, I hope electors choose carefully at this West Tamar council election as this might be your last opportunity to ensure we get some transparency in West Tamar Council's operations for the next few years.
Best to vote in quite a few new councillors as the previous group don't seem to have operated all that openly with public council meetings generally voting 10-0 on council motions decided during previous closed-to-the-public discussions.
TIM WOINARSKI
During my time as an elected West Tamar Councillor I have represented the region with enthusiasm and worked as an integral member of the council decision making team.
I am asking for your endorsement to continue to represent our community.
During the past three years much has been achieved with my involvement.
To guarantee a continuation of that good work I ask for your no.1 vote.
I am also asking for your vote for Deputy Mayor.
I have the skills, experience, energy and ideas to be part of a leadership team to ensure the West Tamar continues to be a desirable place to live, work and visit.
