TASMANIA'S quota of athletes for next month's Commonwealth Games will be between seven and 10 following yesterday's confirmation of Amy Cure in the track cycling team.
``Pretty excited to be named in the Commonwealth Games team today!'' Cure tweeted.
``Looking forward to ripping it up with @NettieEdmo and @MelissaMHoskins.''
The West Pine 21-year-old's inclusion for Glasgow was never in doubt after winning her maiden senior world title earlier this year.
Cure, who was already a multiple junior world champ on the track, won the points race in Colombia to secure a spot on the national team alongside West Australian Melissa Hoskins, 23, and regular Christmas carnivals rival Annette Edmondson, 22, of South Australia.
Women's track endurance coach Gary Sutton had high hopes for the trio.
``Our expectations are very high, but having said that, the standard of women's endurance track cycling in the Commonwealth is the highest in the world with perhaps three of the world's top five in every event,'' he said.
``But we have a strong and well-balanced team, Amy as the current points race world champion and Nettie is no stranger to the podium at international level.
``Mel has stepped up to another level in 2014 and proven she has the capabilities of mixing both track and road, having ridden the Tour of Qatar and straight into the world championships team.
``The trio have been together long enough now to understand each other and support each other when they need it. Their work ethic has gone up another level in the past 12 months, they know where they are now and what they need to do to get to the next level.''
The Australian Commonwealth Games Association yesterday announced a 41-member team for the Games which run from July 23 to August 3, 2014.
The youthful team is highlighted by six previous gold medallists, five reigning world champions and a host of Olympic and Paralympic gold medallists.
As expected, the country's glut of top-flight road riders were largely unavailable due to the Games clashing with the Tour de France.
Tasmanians already nominated for Commonwealth Games are Latrobe boxers Jackson Woods and Nick Cooney, Frankford weightlifter Jenna Myers, Hobart athletes Tristan Thomas, Huw Peacock and Hamish Peacock.
The state's tally should rise again when the hockey squad is named following the World Cup. Launceston's Tim Deavin and Hobart's Eddie Ockenden are both taking part in the tournament in the Netherlands with Launceston's Nick Budgeon among those hoping to break into the team for Glasgow.
