Friday saw entrants of all ages compete again across a broad selection of categories, from tap dancing to jazz.
One of the day’s events – the 13-years solo restricted modern/neo dance category – saw a wide range of performances itself including an energetic routine to an instrumental version of Vance Joy’s Riptide, and something a little darker.
Halle Jenkins of Majestic’s Cheer & Dance Studio put her brooding performance together with the help of the studio’s choreographer and principal, Kristy Harding, and ended up taking home the first place trophy for her efforts.
The school traveled from Hobart to compete in the festival.
Halle’s routine played out over spoken word poetry and featured a number of skillful acrobatics, touching on themes of youth mental health.
Ms Harding was proud of the result.
“Halle’s quite a capable young dancer,” she said.
“Over the years I’ve had the privilege of teaching her confidence and technique.”

Halle said she had enjoyed working on the piece over the past four weeks, for both its physical and conceptual challenges.
“It was very different,” she added.
Families and dance schools from across the state have descended on Launceston for the event.
The final day of competition begins on Saturday, October 6 at 8.30am, with tickets available at the door.
An award ceremony will follow the 7pm session.
