The council’s natural environment manager Barry Pickett said the opening was subject to water quality testing, which was being undertaken and takes several days.
“We'll advise the public on our website once the pool is open and ready for use,” he said.
“Fortunately the work we've need to undertake this year is less complicated than last year. We've touched up some of the paint that we didn't get to last year, and the pool has already been filled. We've begun our water treatment program to chlorinate and treat the water.”
Mr Pickett said lifeguards from the Launceston Aquatic Centre will be on duty at the First Basin swimming pool on weekends between 11am to 4pm from December 2, and every day except Christmas Day from December 18 until March.

In 2016 pool infrastructure, including pumps and switchboards, damaged in the June floods required repair or replacement.
