With tens of thousands of people expected to walk through the gates at Mowbray Racecourse on Wednesday, Senior Sergeant Jason Jones said police would be targeting anti-social behaviour and drink and drug driving.
“There certainly will be a high police presence both inside the cup precinct and the surrounding areas,” he said.
If you drink and drive, there’s a very high chance you will be caught.

Given the start time for the main race has been delayed until 6.15pm, Senior Sergeant Jones said officers would be patrolling the area into the evening.
“It could mean some people will have a really big day, depending on what time they arrive,” he said.
“We’ve restructured our hours of duty to accommodate the change in time and police will be targeting any issues in town after the event.”
