A parcel of Crown land at Pontville was identified as a fitting location for the facility, and a lease between the Crown and Tasracing has been signed.
Brightside Farm Sanctuary founder and animal advocate Emma Haswell said if this facility is going to work, it needs to be run differently.
“This new facility looks good on paper, but it needs to be run by somebody who actually wants to see the greyhound euthanization rates drop,” Ms Haswell said.
The proposed greyhound re-homing facility aims to include a visitor centre for prospective foster carers and adopters, retraining facility, and a residence to provide 24-hour supervision, security, and management.
The GAP facility aims to increase re-homing and ownership of the breed.
