Crime Stoppers Tasmania was put under the spotlight during an international conference in Panama, winning two awards.
It is the first time the Tasmanian not-for-profit-organisation has been awarded at the annual event.
Crime Stoppers Tasmania deputy chairman David Daniels was awarded International Civilian of the Year.
The organisation’s chairwoman, Amanda Castray, said Mr Daniels had made a “significant contribution to the program’s success”.
"David’s passion for improving and uplifting Tasmania and its communities can be seen through his diligent work and dedication to Crime Stoppers campaigns, including the many years of successful Crime Stoppers Week events", she said.
Tasmania also took home the Best Community Engagement Award for communities up to 1 million.
The award recognised the state’s ‘My Home, Our Community’ initiative.
Crime Stoppers chief executive Ron Franks said the award would “go a long way toward recognising the selfless dedication of staff and volunteers”.
“The ‘My Home, Our Community’ initiative works by listening to communities and individuals in order to understand what they believe depicts a safe and enviable Tasmania,” he said.
“Then we actively reach out to those communities, on their terms. It is true community engagement in action.
“By genuinely collaborating with communities to promote the common goal of a safer Tasmania, we can all make a difference.”
