However, Cityprom marketing officer Laura Wilson hoped people would go one step further and wear their most festive gear for the one-day street party.
The best dressed would be in the running for a prize, Ms Wilson said.

Businesses of George Street and surrounding area will take over the street offering food and drinks while musicians entertain the crowds.
Fiesta on George gave businesses the opportunity to showcase their wares and boost their trade, while competing for the best looking stall, she said.
Cityprom executive officer Steve Henty encouraged people to dress up “festive and safe” and said he planned to wear a sombrero during the day.
Any businesses or community members with ideas to showcase areas around Launceston’s central business district should get in touch with Cityprom, he said.
“I’d like see other precincts come forward with ideas to activate and engage people in the CBD,” Mr Henty said.
O’Keefes Hotel second manager Chloe Babos said part of George Street would be transformed into a relaxed beer garden with fake plants, lawns and bean bags.
Fiesta on George will close George Street, between Paterson and York streets, and Brisbane St, between St John and Earl streets, to all vehicles from 6am until midnight on Saturday.
City of Launceston advise all motorists to heed road signs and traffic management with more people around the central business district.
An unrelated, partial road closure of Cimitiere Street will also close off the street between Bathurst and Charles streets throughout Saturday while major works are carried out on the C.H Smith site.
